Overview
The bar graph shows the proportion of people living with HIV (PLWH) who are retained in care and virally suppressed within each of five categories of race/ethnicity, including: White, Asian, Black, Hispanic/Latinx, and Other. The proportions are expressed in terms of the number of PLWH who are retained in care or virally suppressed in proportion to the total number of PLWH from that race/ethnicity. The graph also shows the proportion of PLWH who are retained in care and virally suppressed depending on country of origin: U.S.-born or non U.S.-born. The graph shows that Hispanic/Latinx and Black PLWH and people who were not born in the U.S. are the three groups that have below-average rates of viral suppression and retention in care. This graph provides data that we have used to prioritize improving viral suppression rates for Hispanic/ Latinx and Black PLWH (U.S.-born and non U.S.-born).

The bar graph shows that the average viral suppression rate for White, Asian, Black, Other races of color and Hispanic/ Latinx viral suppression is 79 percent and the average retention in care is 83 percent. The viral suppression and retention in care values for each racial and ethnic group in 2020 are as follows:
